H.G. Cocks | H. G. Cocks is lecturer in history at Birkbeck College, University of London. He is the author of Nameless Offences: Homosexual Desire in 19th Century England (Tauris, 2003), and The Modern History of Sexuality (Palgrave, 2005) as well as a clutch of academic articles on social life in modern Britain. His next book, Classified: The Secret History of the Personal Column, tells the stories behind ads for husbands, wives, and lonely hearts going back to the 17th century.
